Fenerbahçe

Fenerbahçe is a peninsula that stretches into the Sea of Marmara. It takes its name from the lighthouse which is found at the far edge of the peninsula. Fenerbahçe is also one of the few places in Turkey which has a given its name to a famous sports club.
Fenerbahçe has two bays called Kalamış and Dalyan which stretch along the coast and are surrounded by the neighbourhoods of Kızıltoprak, Feneryolu, Çiftehavuzlar and Cadde Bostan.

As mentioned earlier, Fenerbahçe takes its name from the lighthouse tower which is found on the western side of the peninsula. Sources’ dating back to ottoman times show that the area was known as Kelemiç (Kalamış) and only began to be named Fenerbahçe (garden of the lighthouse) after a lighthouse was built here in 1562.

Bağdat Street, which is found in this area, is a popular meeting place for high society and also a great area for shopping, with rows of luxurious shops and boutiques as well as some famous cafes.

The Bosporus connects two seas and flows through the centre of this magnificent city. Its shores are embroidered like lace with small bays, trees and beautiful flowers.
