KUŞADASI
A cute coast town in Aydın...60 km from city center, it is located on the coastal line where the Aegean Region meets the sea. The town, which is surrounded by Selçuk and Pamucak on the north and Dilek Peninsula on the south where National Park is located, is the center of the significant touristic sites such as İzmir, Efes, Meryemana, Milet, Didim, Pamukkale, Marmaris, Bodrum. Kuşadası Port (Aegean Ports) is the second sea gate of Turkey for the arriving tourists due to its closeness to the Samos Island of Greece. Being close to Efes has been also an advantage for its developing foreign tourism. It is surrounded by Selçuk – İzmir on the north, Germencik on the northeast, Söke on the east and the south. As far as cruise tourism is concerned, Kuşadası comes second after Istanbul. Its harbor is much more beautiful and modern than the Karaköy Harbor of Istanbul.
AYDIN
Aydın has been a centre for various civilisations throughout history. It has shown hospitality to many important ancient cities such as Afrodisias, Miletus, Alinda, Didyma, Nisa, Prien and Magnesia. Modern day Aydın was once named Tralles and developed in 2500 BC at the time of the Hittites. Its most successful time was in the 7th Century which was the Lydian Period.
Arranged in order, the various civilisations who have ruled here are; the Frigya, Lydian’s, Persians, Byzantines, Romans, Seljuk’s, Mentesoğulları, Aydınoğulları and finally the Ottomans.
Don’t leave without visiting Aphrodisias antique city and the temple of Apollo at Didim, watching the Altın Güvercin music competition in Kuşadası, tasting Aegean cuisine, fresh figs and grapes and the wine which is produced from these grapes, buying some Turunç jam, trying fish such as sea bream, grey mullet and red mullet, visiting the boutiques which sell carpets, leather and souvenirs, watching camel wrestling, eating sucuk, visiting Paşayayla, eating Tandır and swimming in the sea.
