Silivri
Istanbul
Istanbul is one of the rarest cities in the world, not only is it a place which is discussed all over the world but it has also had many pieces written about it. Whilst some have taken an emotional approach and praised it, others have made relentless criticisms.
One once wrote ‘why would they give up everything just to live here?’ whilst another called it ‘the capital of the world’.
Istanbul is such a city; it has even been compared with Rome. It dazzles visitors with its golden presence, magnificent buildings, religious value, bazaars and baths.
Istanbul is the bridge which connects the eastern world with the west and has unrivalled geography and fabulous history.
There is no other place in the world where you can pass from Asia into Europe within 5 minutes. Istanbul is not only continents, but also a crucible for a combination of cultures including Pagan, Christian and Muslim. Istanbul is jollity of beliefs, religions, languages, races and cultures. Mosques, churches and synagogues are found side by side and the call to prayer, the bells and the Hazan are all heard simultaneously. Istanbul has the world’s richest, most interesting mosaic of civilizations
The Bosporus connects two seas and flows through the centre of this magnificent city. Its shores are embroidered like lace with small bays, trees and beautiful flowers.
Silivri
Known in ancient times as Selymbria or Selybria, Silivri has maintained its importance throughout the ages due to its location which has a natural harbour and is by a road which is important for trade.
The parks and nature areas that have been formed along the 45km coastline make this a popular place for day trips as well as holidays, with visitors being able to relax, have fun play various sports without going too far from the city.
Besides the parks, you will also find many tea houses which have indoor as well as outdoor seating areas and are the ideal place to sit and enjoy the cooling breeze with a fabulous view of the sea.
The harbour is surrounded by places that have boats for hire, fisherman’s shelters, a floating fish restaurant and rocks that you can sit on and catch fish.
If you decide to hire a boat, you are free to sail from one side of Silivri to the other. On the Bosnakbahçe side, you can see the remains of the old castle walls as well as many interesting rock formations and campsites which are set on top of the hills. From the other side of Silivri, you can see the historical bridge that was built by the famous architect Sinan, the beaches and many beautiful summer houses.
There are also many places that can by easily reached by land such as Silivris old city walls, the gates, the inscriptions, the brick seals, the cistern and the Grand vizier Piri Mehmet mosque which dates to 1517 and pertains to Christian times.
The beaches along the coast are free of charge and have beautifully fine sands. Besides a small train which is used to carry people from one beach to another, the road is closed to traffic which means people can wonder freely.
Various sea sports are available on the beach and there are also many routes that are open to motorbikes and bicycles for those who wish to explore their surroundings further.
