Beylerbeyi
Beylerbeyi
It is debateable as to whether the land in Istanbul is made from stone or gold. However it is certain that Beylerbeyi, which is on the Asian side of Istanbul and is found right under the Bosporus Bridge, is scented with history.
Beylerbeyi is a select district of the Bosporus and has history that goes way back to Byzantine times. Situated between Kuzguncuk and Çengelköy, Beylerbeyi is one of the oldest places on the Bosporus and has been one of the most sought after places in this area throughout history.
Commercialization in Beylerbeyi began in Byzantine times and continued through ottoman times. When the number of settlements increased in the 17th century, Beylerbeyi became known as a place for the elite. Adding colour to the silhouette of the Anatolian side of the strait and also found in this district is the Hamid-i evvel mosque (Beylerbeyi mosque) which has double minarets.
Beylerbeyi still holds traces of its magnificent history with wooden houses, restored mansions, its mosque and the woods which stretch out beyond it and Beylerbeyi palace.
You can enjoy fresh fish at the restaurants which are found on the shore or buy fish sandwiches from the Fishermans boats. You can also sit and have a refreshing glass of tea in the many tea gardens which are found in the area.
Istanbul
Istanbul is one of the rarest cities in the world, not only is it a place which is discussed all over the world but it has also had many pieces written about it. Whilst some have taken an emotional approach and praised it, others have made relentless criticisms.
One once wrote ‘why would they give up everything just to live here?’ whilst another called it ‘the capital of the world’.
Istanbul is such a city; it has even been compared with Rome. It dazzles visitors with its golden presence, magnificent buildings, religious value, bazaars and baths.
Istanbul is the bridge which connects the eastern world with the west and has unrivalled geography and fabulous history.
There is no other place in the world where you can pass from Asia into Europe within 5 minutes. Istanbul is not only continents, but also a crucible for a combination of cultures including Pagan, Christian and Muslim. Istanbul is jollity of beliefs, religions, languages, races and cultures. Mosques, churches and synagogues are found side by side and the call to prayer, the bells and the Hazan are all heard simultaneously. Istanbul has the world’s richest, most interesting mosaic of civilizations
The Bosporus connects two seas and flows through the centre of this magnificent city. Its shores are embroidered like lace with small bays, trees and beautiful flowers.
